This Memorial Day, we will unite as a country and take time to reflect on America’s heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We will honor, admire, and pay tribute to the fallen at veterans cemeteries all across the nation.
This month marks the annual tax deadline for millions of Americans to file their income taxes. President Ronald Reagan once said that one of the ways government approaches the economy is “if it moves, tax it.” Unfortunately, the economy must have done a lot of moving, because the Federal government has collected record high tax revenues.
I commend the Tribune for elevating the debate over how we can protect our environment and clean our air. Clean air not only affects the quality of our lives, but also touches the heart of our values. Our children will inherit the environment we leave them, and like most parents, I too want to leave my kids a healthy environment and clean air that they can prosper in.
Today’s children will be tomorrow’s leaders. The school must be an agent of accountability and opportunity for our children to dream so that they can become the next generation of leaders in American innovation. That is a worthy promise we must make and uphold because in the end, it is not only our children’s future, but America’s future.
Congress just returned to session and is in the midst of analyzing our current economic challenges. We didn’t need Washington to officially tell us that we are experiencing the fastest rise in gas and grocery bills in almost two decades. We have been paying those increased costs over the past year.
