McCarthy: We Must Not Impose New Costs on Job Creators
Washington D.C. – Congressman Kevin McCarthy issued the following statement today regarding the passage of H.R. 910, the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011
"Today, the House of Representatives took another strong step forward to save and create jobs in America. In a bipartisan vote, the House passed H.R. 910, the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011. This bill prohibits the EPA from regulating greenhouse gases. To be clear, my Republican colleagues and I want clean air, but there are myriad regulations on the books that have, and continue to, improve air quality in California. However, the Obama Administration's zeal to regulate greenhouse gases is an unnecessary overreach, with little or no consideration of the economic consequences. Now is not the time to impose significant new costs on American businesses struggling to create new jobs. ?
"President Obama and many Congressional Democrats just don't get the fact that this regulation and many others like it put American companies at a competitive disadvantage - reducing their ability to create jobs here in the United States. The effort required to understand and comply with federal regulations saps time and energy and stifles innovation, expansion and job creation. This is especially true for small businesses. House Republicans will continue to conduct rigorous reviews of agencies and regulations with an eye toward smaller, more reasonable government on behalf of our job creators."
