McCarthy Sworn In for the 112th Congress

January 5, 2011

Washington D.C. – Rep. Kevin McCarthy was officially sworn in as a Member of the House of Representatives in the 112th Congress today. McCarthy released the following statement:

"I am humbled and honored for the opportunity to continue serving the people of California's 22nd District as their Representative in Congress, and also serve my colleagues in the House of Representatives as the Majority Whip. By working together, I believe we can give our common-sense values a voice in the new Congress to make tough decisions and help recharge America's economic strength and soundness for our own generation and the next.

"The 112th Congress brings a great opportunity for a fresh start. For the last two years, legislation that passed through this House failed to meet the needs of the American people. Today that path ends, and a new one humbly begins. Through the America Speaking Out project, House Republicans created a new way for Americans to directly communicate their concerns and priorities with their elected leaders. With the feedback from our neighbors in the 22nd District and from people all across the country, House Republicans constructed a new approach to governing with the Pledge to America. Today, we take the first step in that effort with a plan to set in motion a fresh path forward that will help create jobs, end economic uncertainty, stop out-of-control spending, and reform Washington."
