McCarthy Statement Commemorating Voyager's Record World Flight

Dec 14, 2012
Press Release

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) today made the following statement in commemoration of the groundbreaking world flight of Voyager, which began in Mojave 26 years ago today:

“Today, we remember a historic milestone that occurred right here in Kern County,” said Congressman McCarthy. “26 years ago on December 14th, 1986, Voyager began its successful journey around the world nonstop without refueling; the first trip of its kind.  Nine days later, a record was broken and history was made.  Today, Voyager greets everyone who enters the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. This groundbreaking achievement that began as a dream and a drawing on a small piece of paper in Mojave inspired a generation of pilots, engineers, and aerospace leaders; a new generation of entrepreneurs.  That daring American spirit is what makes our country and our community exceptional and it is exactly what we need to continue championing today.”
