McCarthy Congratulates U.S. Service Academies Graduates

Washington D.C. – Congressman Kevin McCarthy today congratulated local cadets and midshipmen on their graduation from the U.S. Service Academies.

"It has been a source of great pride to watch these individuals grow and develop into strong young officers these past four years through the benefits of a military education," said McCarthy. "I commend them for their commitment to service and look forward to seeing what they accomplish as they lead our armed services into the future."

The U.S. Service Academies are among the most highly-respected and challenging educational programs in the nation. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as an officer in the uniformed services. Below is additional information on graduates that were nominated by Congressman McCarthy:

2nd Lieutenant, Christopher Dana graduated from United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He is a graduate of Paso Robles High School in Paso Robles, CA.

He will report to the 1-30th Field Artillery Battalion at Fort Sill, Oklahoma to begin Basic Officer Leaders Course for 5 months. In early 2014, he will report to his permanent duty station at Fort Campbell, Kentucky with the 1-320th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

2nd Lieutenant Evan Szablowski graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with Honors. He is a graduate of Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, CA.

He is headed to Oxford in the fall to study on a Rhodes scholarship for a Master's degree in Applied Statistics. After two years at Oxford, he will return to his military post in the Army.

Ensign Jessica Tyack will graduate from the United States Merchant Marine Academyat Kings Point, NY, on June 17, 2013. She is a graduate of Kern Valley High School in Lake Isabella, CA.

She is currently sitting for her USCG Third Mates License. Her plan is to go into the Offshore Industry operating on Supply Vessels, Drill Ships, or Drill Rigs.

Ensign Carolyn Ewert graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ocean Engineering. She is a graduate of Centennial High School in Bakersfield, CA.

She will be serving on the USS Shoup as an Engineering Duty Officer and will be stationed in Everett, Washington.

2nd Lieutenant Ga "Irene" Han graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management with a minor in Japanese. She is a graduate of Lancaster High School in Lancaster, CA.

She will be stationed as a Contracting Officer at Kadena Air Base, Japan. Kadena AB is situated in Kadena and Chatan and the city of Okinawa, in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. Kadena Air Base is the hub of U.S. airpower in the Pacific and home to the USAF's 18th Wing and a variety of associate units.

2nd Lieutenant Wesley Reid graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. He is a graduate of San Luis Obispo High School in San Luis Obispo, CA.

At the beginning of August, he is headed to flight school in Columbus, Mississippi.

2nd Lieutenant Rachelle M. Crespo graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, with a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Sciences. She is a graduate of Paso Robles High School in Paso Robles CA.

She will be reporting to Keesler AFB, Mississippi in the beginning of August to attend Cyberspace Operation School.
