McCarthy Applauds Contract from America

Press Release

Washington D.C. – Chief Deputy Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) issued the following statement praising the “Contract from America” released today.  Congressman McCarthy has been tasked to lead an effort by House Republicans to engage the American people, solicit solutions, and put forth a positive governing agenda.

“We welcome this important document and applaud all those Americans who participated in the process to construct it. From runaway spending to a government takeover of health care to the disregard for our constitution, the Contract from America speaks to a growing dissatisfaction with the direction of our country.  But more importantly, it demonstrates that there are real solutions to our nation’s challenges, and they don’t have to originate from Washington.  Rather than continuing the Washington-knows-best approach, it’s time for Congress to start listening to the ideas and priorities of the American people.

“In a matter of weeks, House Republicans will kick off a new program of engagement with the American people to look for bold ideas and talk about how we can use our principles to solve problems. It is important efforts like the Contract from America that we want to be a part of this national conversation. Building upon those ideas presented today and those from millions more Americans, we can construct a positive, governing agenda to truly change the way Washington works and the policies it pursues.”
