McCarthy Announces Graduation of Local Students from U.S. Service Academies

 

Congressman Kevin McCarthy is proud to announce the graduation of ten cadets/midshipmen from the U.S. Service Academies. 

“It has been a source of great pride to watch these individuals grow and develop into strong young officers these past four years through the benefits of a military education.  I commend them for their commitment to service and look forward to seeing what they accomplish as they lead our armed services into the future.”

 

2nd Lieutenant Joost “Luke” DeMoes, graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering on May 23, 2015.  He is a graduate of Liberty High School in Bakersfield, CA.

On May 30, 2015 he will marry his fiancée, Katie Russell. He will report to Fort Leonard Wood, MO on July 27th to begin Engineers Basic Officer Leaders Course. In early 2016, he will report to his permanent duty station with the 15th Engineer Battalion at Grafenwoehr, Germany.

 

2nd Lieutenant Nicolas A. Rodriguez, graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science Degree in both International Relations and Portuguese, with a background in Environmental Engineering on May 23, 2015. He is a graduate of Frontier High School in Bakersfield, CA.

He will report to the 4th Ranger Training Battalion on August 21, 2015, to begin Ranger School. Upon graduation, he will attend Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course until March of 2016. In March of 2016, he will report to his first duty station at Ft. Carson, Colorado, with the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

 

2nd Lieutenant Mark Van Kopp, graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Literature on May 23, 2015.  He is a graduate of Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, CA.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

He will report to Infantry Basic Officer Leaders Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, on August 21st. In 2016, he will report to his permanent duty station with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment at Vilseck, Germany.

 

2nd Lieutenant Stephen Burke, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Weapons and Systems Engineering on May 22, 2015.  He is a graduate of Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, CA.

He will report to The Basic School in Quantico, VA, to begin training as a Marine Corps Ground officer.

 

Ensign  Bryce Keene, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantitative Economics on May 22, 2015.  In January 2014, he enrolled in the Carey Business School of Johns Hopkins University and will receive a Masters in Finance in December 2015. He is a graduate of Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, CA.

He will report to San Diego as a Surface Warfare Officer on a minesweeper (USS Champion) in December.

 

 

2nd Lieutenant Spencer Marsh, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering on May 22, 2015.  He is a graduate of Paso Robles High School in Paso Robles, CA.

Ensign John Paul Wiemann, graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering on May 22, 2015. He is a graduate of Advanced Christian High School in Paso Robles, CA.

After graduation he will be reporting to Pensacola, FL, to begin flight training as a Naval Aviator.

 

 

2nd Lieutenant Courtney E. Bishop, is graduating from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering on May 28, 2015. She is a graduate of Desert Junior Senior High School at Edwards Air Force Base.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

She will be attending pilot training at Columbus AFB, MS in April of next year.

 

 

2nd Lieutenant Nicholas Nowland, is graduating from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Military History on May 28, 2015. He is a graduate of Randolph High School in Universal City, TX. At the time of his nomination, his family resided in Lancaster.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In early August he will report to Virginia Tech for a year to earn a Master of Arts in History. After completing his master’s degree, he will attend Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, MS.

 

 

Ensign Baylee Grier is graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Engineering on June 20, 2015. She graduated from Quartz Hill High School in Lancaster, California.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Baylee will be working for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as a third assistant engineer after graduation. She will also be an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve.
