McCarthy Announces DOT Grant for Meadows Field Airport
Washington, DC – Congressman Kevin McCarthy announced the Department of Transportation awarded Meadows Field Airport a grant for phase two of the Runway Rehabilitation Project. The grant, which McCarthy strongly supported, will support the Runway Rehabilitation Project, a three-phased project totaling $49 million that will upgrade our airport runway to accommodate air traffic in and out of Bakersfield and the Central Valley. Congressman McCarthy and Director of Airports for Kern County, Richard Strickland, released the following statement on the grant announcement:
Congressman Kevin McCarthy:
“I am proud this second phase grant was awarded and that the Runway Rehabilitation Project continues to lay the groundwork for Bakersfield to be the gateway to the Central Valley. Through this rehabilitation project, our airport will exceed safety standards and continue operating as a leading airport in the region -- a hub where we greet family and friends, send off and welcome home our sons and daughters, and grow economic activity in and around Bakersfield.”
Director of Airports Richard Strickland:
"As the Director of Airports for Kern County I am excited to see phase two funded as the continued capital investment into Meadows Field will allow for the economic impact of Meadows Field to benefit all of Kern County and the Central Valley. This award of $12.5 million represents a coordinated effort with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and the Federal Aviation Administration for Runway 12L/30R Rehabilitation."
