House Passes Harvey Aid, Government Funding Bill

Sep 14, 2017
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 3354, the Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act:

“Today, the House has passed all 12 government funding bills through regular order. The only way to make the people’s voice heard in Washington is to empower their representatives in Congress. Through this process, the House has heard the people’s voice and voted to make major changes in the way Washington spends taxpayer dollars. As a result, our funding legislation forces the government to do what it ought to do and to stop doing what it shouldn’t do— it does everything from strengthening our national defense, veterans’ programs, and border security to protecting life to cutting abusive Washington agencies like the IRS and the EPA. “Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ-11) and his entire committee deserve a lion’s share of the credit for their efforts, often working overtime for months. The chairman himself was personally present for every single minute of debate for weeks—late night after late night—seeing this legislation through. It’s been a long road, but the House is starting to change Washington’s bad habits, and the American people have a stronger voice because of it. I urge the Senate to act on this House-passed funding bill as soon as possible.”
