Congressman McCarthy Supports 2-1-1 Legislation
Washington D.C. - Today, Congressman Kevin McCarthy announced his support of Federal legislation that could help fund San Luis Obispo County’s effort to create a 2-1-1 service.
“I applaud the leadership of the Supervisors, especially Chairman Jerry Lenthall, for putting the county in the process of establishing a needed 2-1-1 service,” said McCarthy. “2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember phone number that people can call and receive access to critical information in the case of an emergency, like an earthquake, twenty four hours a day, 365 days a year. I will be cosponsoring bipartisan legislation on 2-1-1 and will work with Democrat co-sponsors, like Congresswoman Lois Capps, and other Californians to help move the bill along in Congress.”
2-1-1 provides access to vital information during emergencies and a one stop point of information on local, state, and federal government programs and services. Currently, there is a bipartisan bill before Congress, H.R. 211, Calling for 2-1-1 Act of 2007, which would establish a federal matching grant program for states to implement 2-1-1.
