Congressman McCarthy Issues Statement Supporting Federal Spending Freeze

Feb 23, 2009
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement supporting a federal spending freeze for the rest of this fiscal year, and urging Democratic congressional leaders to scrap a massive “omnibus” spending bill that contains the largest increase in non-entitlement spending since the Carter Administration. Unfortunately, this bill may be voted on as soon as this week and has been kept hidden from the public.

Below is a statement from Congressman McCarthy:

“After trillions of taxpayer dollars have been spent for bank bailouts and expanded Washington spending, now is the time for honest budgeting that doesn’t saddle our children’s generation and our grandchildren’s generation with mountains of debt. That is why I join my colleagues in calling for a federal spending freeze to address the growing budget deficit.

“I urge the President to join this fiscal responsibility effort. As we close out the first decade of the 21st century, I also urge the House Democratic Leadership to embrace online disclosure and place all spending bills online to allow for adequate public review and transparency. Unfortunately this disclosure was not applied to the stimulus spending, but can and should be done with future legislation. Together we can work to cut waste, fraud, and abuse to allow our children to inherit a stronger America.”
