Congress Passes Minibus Spending Package
Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement on the passage of three funding bills for FY2019:
“The Republican-led Congress is committed to restoring the American People’s trust in their government. That means restoring Congress to full working order.
“Today we took an important step toward that goal, sending three funding bills totaling $146.5 billion to the President’s desk. The significance of this achievement should not be understated: For the first time in more than a decade, Congress is sending multiple funding bills to the President before the end of the fiscal year.
“This package invests nearly $100 billion in veterans’ health care and military construction. It provides the largest budget in history for the VA, with funds dedicated to implementing the VA Mission Act and strengthening oversight at the agency.
“This package allocates $44.64 billion to maintain our nuclear arsenal and water infrastructure. This includes funding for nuclear non-proliferation and security, as well as the improvement of water infrastructure that facilitates American commerce and transportation.
“Additionally, this package allocates $4.8 billion for the proper functioning of the legislative branch. This amount includes funding for Capitol Police and the Library of Congress. It also increases funding for vital oversight functions like the Government Accountability Office and new Office of Employee Advocacy.
“The Republican-led Congress is rolling up its sleeves and getting work done for the American People. The Appropriations Committee has worked tirelessly to make this achievement possible. I commend them for their effort.”
