A Budget To Put Us On A Path To Prosperity
Dear Friend,
This week, House Republicans introduced a bold, fact-based budget for the next fiscal year that helps create jobs, cuts spending, keeps taxes low and tackles our debt and deficit. It faces head-on the drivers of our debt and is a responsible alternative to the President's irresponsible proposal, which increases taxes and spending by trillions and does absolutely nothing to prevent a debt crisis economists assure us is on the horizon. In fact, the President's plan triples our debt by 2021.
In this critical test of leadership, the President let the American people down. His proposal to increase taxes by trillions of dollars and lock in historically high spending only accelerates our country down a path to fiscal disaster. My colleagues and I will not stand by and allow America's future to crumble under our crushing burden of debt. That is why our budget proposal calls for over $6 trillion in cuts to the President's budget over ten years; caps spending at pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels; and preserves important health and security programs so they are available to future generations, while ensuring we keep our promises to those 55 and older.
Creating jobs is our number one priority. Our budget does that. By cutting spending, reducing our debt and deficit and promoting pro-growth tax reforms, our budget creates a climate ripe for job creation and economic growth. In fact, according to the House Budget Committee, if our budget is enacted, it will help create about one million new private-sector jobs this year and cut the unemployment rate by over half by 2015. In addition, the Committee projects an increase in economic output and an average increase in income of $1,000 per year for each American family.
Preserving our health and safety programs is vital. Medicare's unfunded liability reaches into the tens of trillions of dollars and is simply unsustainable. Without action, our children and grandchildren won't have a health retirement security system to rely on. Fortunately, we still have time to save it. The changes we propose do not apply to anyone 55 years or older. Instead, they will go into effect gradually and in a way that will preserve and protect this vital program for future generations. We know that tackling this and other health and welfare programs in our budget opens the door for partisan political attacks, but we are committed to America's future and will do what is necessary to preserve it.
This budget will successfully bring us back from the brink and be the catalyst for a new era of American prosperity. Our budget will result in less debt, less spending and less of a threat of massive tax increases – beginning the process of restoring the confidence of American families and businesses to bring America back stronger than ever.
