Nov 15, 2011
Press Release

Washington D.C. - Congressman Kevin McCarthy appeared on Fox News' "On the Record" with Greta Van Susteren to launch WhipCast, a revolutionary new app that gives Members of Congress, their staff and the American public a new and easy way to get real-time updates about what's going on in Congress.

On Launching WhipCast:

"This is a new app called WhipCast. If you ever want to know exactly what is happening on the floor, this gives you up-to-the-minute information, faster than members get it. Floor updates will tell you exactly what is going on, on the floor at that time. And if you ever wondered when that bill came up, what was in it and what was the policy behind it, you can get the actual policy of the bill itself as well.

"This is from the Majority Whip's office, this is exactly what goes to all the Members, it will tell you exactly what's happening on the floor, to all Republican Members as well. It gives you the latest policy, the background of where we stand, what we are taking. It gives you the latest communication. Gives you the latest video of what is happening.

On The Importance Of Greater Transparency And Accountability In Congress:

"We went out in the Majority Whip's office and one of the major things we wanted to do—remember what Congress was two years ago, when bills would come to the floor before even members had read it? We believe in transparency. Not only do we hold the bills for three days, we now want greater transparency on the floor. So, all the information members get, the public gets. This can be downloaded on your Blackberry, on your iPad, on your Droid phone. You just go to the app store on either of those and download it today. It's free.

"This is the people's House and what a better way to do that. You don't have to hire a lobbyist to know what is going on. And the unique thing in here, say you find something you like and you want to tell your friends, there's one little button here you can put it on your Facebook to all your friends or you can tweet it out to everybody.

"We just empowered the American public to take back control of the House. What is unique, is I just hope the President downloads it so when he is out speaking he can get what is really happening in Congress for those 22 bills that came out of Congress that are sitting on the Senate side to get jobs created. He will know what's really happening.

On The "There's An App For That Video":

"There's an app for that! It's an ad, hopefully everybody sees it and will download it. But it just shows, that if anyone in this country has an interest in politics or interest in a bill or wants the policy background you can get an application for it right on your phone, right on your iPad, and you will be up-to-date from the minute of what is happening on the floor."
